It was our desire to see the beautiful and charming countryside of the Chianti area when we discovered the the village of Radda. Chianti Country in Tuscany is where you will discover some of Italy's favorite wineries, get a chance to enjoy wine tastings, and enjoy stunning scenery. The best wine grown in this area is Chianti Classico. Our very favorite Chianti Classico was discovered in Radda. If we could have afforded the shipping costs, we would have definitely sent home bottles of Colle Bereto 2006 Riserva.
Radda is the main town in Chianti country. We discovered this romantic area, located in the hilly vineyards, olive trees, shops and a few restaurants that will remain in our hearts forever. Five red Vespas parked in front of the restaurant where we ate lunch became a picture that would end up as my favorite image of the five of us. Our waiter took our picture sitting on the Vespas in front of the restaurant and somehow it was the perfect photograph that would sum up the fun we experienced in Italy!
After enjoying our favorite Chianti Classico back at our villa, we decided to return to Radda and have some shipped home! No matter what the shipping costs would be, the nectar of the gods would be worth it. Imagine our surprise when we arrived to find our restaurant and the winery closed on Wednesday. Guess the wine gods wanted to protect us from bankruptcy! We ate lunch at another restaurant, outside on a patio surrounded by geraniums. Once again we indulged in some of the best pasta dishes, more than one bottle of recommended fantastic wine, and a multitude of desserts. Our waitress also sold us bottles of gourmet balsamic glaze from her family restaurant. The second trip to Radda was worth the long ride home through the winding mountain roads back to Vitiana. We were happy to know that we did have the website where we could order more wine if we decided that we couldn't live without it.
