June 16, 2010, we started our first official "forced march"to the Vatican Museum, which did include the Sistine Chapel. Rome is very spread out, and there are certain areas which can best be enjoyed on a walking tour. We had reservations to the Vatican Museum, which meant that once we arrived we could go through a special entrance and not have to wait in line with the masses of visitors on any given day in Rome. Thinking we were five capable women, somewhat physically in shape (joke), and enthusiastic about seeing as much as possible, we left our apartment and began walking at a pace that would soon be described as a "forced march". By the time we arrived at our destination, our feet, legs, and every muscle in our bodies, could have used a Papal Blessing held in St. Peter's Square on Sundays. Unfortunately is was only Wednesday, but the good news was we did arrive at our reservation time.
Only a mother, grandmother, retired pre-kindergarten teacher, a friend like me, would include these photographic images from the Vatican Museum. A fertility goddess, eight cherubs on the ceiling, and two nuns in white habits, caught my eye and brought back memories that had nothing to do with great art.
For everything there is a season.
