Florence Memories, Past and Present

Maybe you wonder why I have not included current trip pictures and stories from our visits to places like the Uffizi Gallery (greatest collection of Italian paintings featuring works by Giotto, Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rubens, Titian, Michelangelo, and Botticelli), the Duomo (Gothic cathedral with colorful facade-pink, green, and white Tuscan marble), the Baptistery (with it's bronze doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti), the Duomo's Dome by Brunelleschi (with it's 463 steps climb for a marvelous view of Florence), the Bell Tower (50 fewer steps but another great view of the city and the Duomo), the Town Hall (officially called the Palazzo della Signoria) and the Ponte Vecchio (gold and silver shops lining the famous bridge on the Arno River).

I thought that I couldn't possibly have better memories than those from my other two trips to Florence. Having previously photographed the famous sights and shopped "until I dropped"(spending too much money on gold charms that are no longer worn and recently selling my favorite European framed pictures in a garage sale for only a dollar each) were just a couple of the reasons that I wanted this trip to be different.

On this trip, I wanted to see the sights, but not always from behind the camera. I didn't want to buy "things"(except a leather jacket) but I wanted to do things that I might never have a chance to do again. Most of all I wanted to create lasting memories with my "traveling sisters".
